Re: Variety in HIC

On busy weeks I plan to do HIC right after MS. Anyone doing this too? I do that (almost) all the time. Two of my MS sessions include only two lifts (DL/OHP). I rerack the weights and move directly to either power intervals or a homemade kettlebell and sledgehammer HIC. It works OK, since I'm keepin...

Re: "Owning" the weights

To answer your question directly, I "own" a given weight when I complete an entire block at the high end of "authorized" volume AND my conditioning went well AND I feel good about the block in total. In other words, Operator at 4-5 sets (depending on the week). HIC at high end o...

Re: Bodyweight Dips and Weighted Chin Ups between Barbell sets

Thanks a lot for all the information and tips!! It’s an year i’ve been following Tactical Barbell, when I discovered and purchased the book i’ve never abandoned TB templates. Re: Replacement(s) for back squats

I've used front squats for a couple of years (only six months with TB, though). Can't do back squats because of a back injury. The front squats work just fine and is a very reasonable substitute, in my opiniion. You can't move as much weight, but you can definietly get strong(er) doing front squats....

Re: "Owning" the weights

I find that testing withing the block is very helpful. It can be humbling experience, though.. Try to hit max reps with the last set of your last session in giving block. Let's say that you can easily hit 6-8 reps with your 3rd set of 95% while having couple more reps in tank. That is good indicati...

Re: "Owning" the weights

Joking aside.. You might want to read this one: http://tacticalbarbell.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=590 That's a good read, thank you! I'm still curious about when (as concrete and quantifiable as possible) the rest of you decide that it's time to use heavier weights, though :) I'm not going t...

"Owning" the weights

The other day I found myself thinking (it happens rarely, but it happens) about what "owning" the weights actually means. I completely agree that you should not move on to heavier weights until you really own/master the ones you're using. But it struck me that though I intuitively think I ...

Re: Grip strength/endurance problem.

Chalk for the win! Seriously, it helps a lot and I can't really think of a reason not to use it. If chalk lets you deadlift 160 for five reps whereas you without chalk could do it "only" for three reps, I would say that you're still getting grip strength training in the deadlift but you´re...

Re: Your Preferred Conditioning Source

It depends. If possible, I prefer getting my conditioning mainly doing martial arts. Sparring, pad work and heavy bag work etc. is to me the most fun way of getting it done. It's also obviously very specific, since martial arts is where I need my conditioning most. I'm a civilian and my work doesn't...
