Re: Martial Arts for LEO
speaking of MMA, i've been very impressed lately with the caliber of MMA guys at local gyms i've trained at. they are not particularly great at any one aspect, at least at the amateur levels, but they are very very hard to deal with. i've had more difficult rolling sessions with MMA guys than a lot...

Re: Operator 4x/Week - Pure Strength Athlete
I was reading through TB1 earlier this evening when I came across KB's discussion on why Operator uses a 3x/week split. I have quoted the section below: "Generally speaking, Eastern Bloc approaches favour lifting 3 or more times per week as being optimal, and 1x per week as being least effecti...

Re: Carbs
I've been following a pretty strict "keto" diet since March. I've lost over 20lb. My energy levels are great (x2/day workouts most days, including very long BJJ competition training), and m strength hasn't diminished. My mental capacities have been great too; I'm crunching books in a way I...

Re: New Toy!
I own 3x clubbells. I have a 2x 15lb and 1x 25lb. I actually went through a period where they were my main method of training outside of designated military PT. I had very strong forearms and they actually kept me in reasonable shape along with all the army based PT sessions. Like with most things ...

New Toy!
I've been playing around with some new implements, i.e., steel clubs and maces. So far I'm really liking them. I bought a loadable steel mace (full of BBs it's thirty pounds) last weekend at a BJJ tournament. This thing is a contemptuous and cruel beast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2e9OOeYkjA.

Re: Reading List
I'm pretty much recommending Jordan Perterson's Twelve Rules for Life to everybody I know. It has an unfortunately "self-help-ish" title (and there is some of that, to good effect, in the book), but it really is a very serious piece of depth psychology and philosophy from an extremely lea...

How did you do at that competition? I lost by an advantage in a 2-2 tie.lennarn wrote:I'm not going to be in Denver, but I have an ADCC competition in Norway on the same date. Break a leg!

Re: Thanks for the fine books + intro
Hi- New here, civilian, working my way back to being in shape after a) a long layoff (two years) and b) injury/surgical repair (two inguinal hernias, repaired non-mesh in Dec. 2017). I'm 51, 5'10 & 160, in decent shape all thing considered. I was a long distance mountain runner for a few years ...
