Re: Technique and Strength in the Martial Arts
Just a point, Bark's article from Starting Strength was not written by Rip. It was a guest article by some other dude named Dave Longley. The fact that it was published on SS means that Rip endorses it, I assume. I also have much respect for Rip, but his disdain for TB-style conditioning seems to b...

Re: Reading List
Is the Snowman part of a longer detective series? Sounds vaguely familiar. It is book 7 in the "Harry Hole" (fantastic name) series. I read the first one and skipped ahead to finish it before the movie comes out this month. It's Norwegian I believe. I'd compare it to Michael Connelly but ...

Re: Technique and Strength in the Martial Arts
Everything being equal than sure it's better to be the stronger man in a fight. Not a particularly bold or innovative stance to take....it's like saying eating less helps you lose weight. I guess I'm looking at it more from a point of view of prioritizing. I don't know that you're going to find too...

Re: Technique and Strength in the Martial Arts
Interesting.. Here is Rip: "Strength or technique is the false dichotomy that is presented to us in the Martial Arts. The reality is that they're interdependent. When someone muscles out of your technique, it wasn't necessarily that your technique wasn't good enough, it might just be that they...

Re: BB with increased strength focus
I am starting to plan my next BB. I am running it late spring. It will be strength first option most-likely unless I will go for the S&S/Pullups variation. There are few recommendation in the book for BB option with increased strength focus: - Do only the first 5 weeks of Block 1/BB. - Strength...

Re: What advice would you give a rank novice?
Great suggestions above. I think you would do fine with simple operator from TB progressing and retesting every 6 weeks. That 6 week massive jump will be addictive if the beginner can stick to it. Depending on what the goals are I would also throw Never Gym less or Infinite Intensity in the mix. I ...

Re: What advice would you give a rank novice?
He's not going into a tactical profession, rather just looking to get strong. This is key. In this particular context Starting Strength or any other LP makes the most sense. On the other hand, for the multi- athlete that this forum tends to attract, LP has a short shelf life IME. It doesn't take to...

Re: Quick Hit - Magnesium & HIC (Take your magnesium!!!)
wondering if you guys have any thoughts on this. i took some ZMA a couple years ago on a whim, and i got the best sleep of my life. it was incredible. i've never been a morning person and have woken up groggy most of my life. i took the ZMA and i woke up refreshed, was singing, happy. honestly, it ...

Re: Reading List
One of Bark's posts reminded me of this. I highly recommend "Whoever Fights Monsters" by Robert Ressler for any true crime/serial killer buffs. Ressler was one of the agents that started the FBI's Behavioral Sciences Unit, and interviewed or investigated almost every major serial killer of...
