Fighter+Green or Operator+Black pro For RASP

Post by Simohayha1905 »

/17 yrs old/Male/6ft/170 lbs/1RM/BP 170lbs/SQ 160lbs/DL 260lbs/Chin up 5 BW/ Hello guys/gals i'm not in the Military yet i'm planning on joining at 18-19yrs old and hopefully with a option 40.i'm coming close to finishing my BB, i got my LSS run up while doing BB (6 mile in 1:11:00.the weather slowed me down, and the day before i did 3x50 SE ) i can normally do 10 min mile. i'm wanting to get my run speed up,and also my MS along with SE, so i was thinking on doing black Pro. the 2 HIC will be fast tempo run, while the E session will be a long distance Ruck and after 6 weeks i will do a 3 week SE (if i remember KB says to do that with operator) .does this sound good at all? thanks in advance and sorry if this question is stupid. first time posting here! cant wait to learn from you guys

What are your main goals that you need to work on to get into the military in the role you want?

What fitness standards are required? (I don't know what an option 40 is) I had a google and it looks like Rangers or SF? Slightly aware of RASP, but you need to be more specific.

The TB books aren't necessarily specific enough for SF selection, but you can definitely build a base of Strength, Endurance, etc to prepare for a more specialised selection program. Military athlete has a specific RASP program to do right before selection, but you don't have the required fitness levels to get much out of it at this stage.

At the moment you are asking to improve everything. Depending on what stage you are in training life you could actually achieve that, but focus is always better.

With your run time there is a bit of work to do, which is fine.
You also have some room to improve RE: Strength which will improve your Strength Endurance numbers also. This doesn't work so much the other way around.

If your question is what is better out of fighter/Green and Operator/Black then the answer is neither.
You need to decide what you want to focus on first and what you perceive to be your biggest weakness to reach the goals you want.
I will say this though, people have passed selection without lifting heavy weights, but no one I am aware of has ever passed it without doing lots of running.

Thank you for taking the time to answer this post. yes the option 40 contract gives me a shot to get into the Ranger regiment. the main goals im wanting is SE and E,i do have to work on my running speed (6-7min mile is what i need) i do want to get my strength up but that is probably the lowest priority right now,as long as i gain a little strength overtime in Fighter i think i will be fine.some of the fitness test for RASP are 75+ push-ups in 2 min, 80+ sit-ups in 2 min, at least 6 chin ups, 5 mile run in 40 min or less, a 12 mile ruck in 3 hours or less .there might be some more but these are the ones i found by research.i hope this cleared up anyithing i left out Thank you again for your Informative reply!

You definitely want a solid endurance base, you're going to be spending all day every day wearing a ruck of some kind.

You'll also want to incorporate blocks dedicated to training specifically for RASP, like the 12 week preparation guide the 75th Ranger Regiment made for potential candidates.

Build your foundation with TB and then switch to an event specific training plan a few months out. Check this thread out:
