Hiking vacation; week of 8/9/2021

Monday
Plan: Rest
Actual: Short walk and packing
40 mins in the blistering heat

Tuesday
Plan: Hike
Actual: Hike
Hiking 7:30; we turned around at about 12,000. One of the group had altitude sickness. So that was a little disappointing, but generally fantastic. Beautiful mountains and I was stronger than I expected. Several of the group were 35 years younger than me and they took a lot of the load.

Wednesday
Plan: Hike
Actual: Hike
Hiking 2:20; we started early but the desert gets hot. A lot of creative route selection to get out before we fried.

Thursday
Plan: Hike
Actual: Hike
Hike 4:15 to a weird abandoned Ashram in the mountains. Plenty of time in the burning hot sun.

Friday
Plan: Travel day
Actual: Travel day; we squeezed in an hour hike at elevation. Got a little lost and generally had a good time.

Saturday
Plan Hike
Actual: Hike
Hike 2 hours on the Tahoe Rim Trail; Too smoky to see anything

Sunday
Plan: Rest
Actual: Rest

Summary: I was very well prepared for the trip. That was very satisfying.

Reset; week of 8/16/2021

Actual: Travel

Tuesday

Actual: Rest

Wednesday

Thursday
Plan: Rest
Actual: Rest

Friday
Plan: Lift
Actual: Lift and E
Lift: A small lifting session. Just a few sets. It completely crushed me. I used Week 1 weights and I had to do my work sets with a warm-up weight. Legs were completely wrecked. Naturally, I wasn’t quite smart enough to call it quits without doing too much.
E: Mountain bike cornering practice at the end of the day

Saturday
Plan: E
Actual: E
45 mins on the bike trainer. Legs are super sore from yesterday. Usually a good spin helps them recover. I’m still walking funny.

Sunday
Plan: Rest
Actual: E
Mountain Bike 1:30. Legs are a little better.

Summary: I’m amazed at how a little lifting crushed my legs. I’m hoping to get back on track on Monday.
