Re: Running technique and injury prevention
Trail Running is my only form of running...... being a 'Big Guy'.... and with no way of being confused with your typical Runner look, Roads are not an option for me..... or indeed quite a few folk....especially those who are either coming back to fitness or giving it a first go...... trails are a l...

Re: Running technique and injury prevention
I've had shin splint issues ever since I got into running (almost two years ago). Because of this I've also developed an interest in proper running mechanics, and my form has changed quite a bit since I first started. Knowing and understanding good gait is one thing, but applying it is another, bec...

Re: After 40 club
I've asked myself the same question about necessity of hypertrophy work at older age. So.. I am thinking out-loud now.. Muscle loss as is inevitable as we age. Maintaining the strength and staying in injury free training as long as possible can and should become the priority at some point of life. T...

Re: After 40 club
When I've gone over to a heavy emphasis on auto-regulation in the past, I've had better results than otherwise. That needs to be qualified a bit: of course when I was in my twenties and smashing a Westside template with reckless abandon while eating 4000 cal/day, I made my best pure strength progre...

Running technique and injury prevention
This topic has become very important to me lately. It is obvious that one should pay attention to the running technique if he wants to run on the regular basis. I do. I got back to the roads from 1000 years break during my BB. And I got addicted to it. Guess what? I've strained my hamstrings once I ...

Re: After 40 club
I like to play around with some other stuff at the margins (e.g., when I'm transitioning from endurance to strength emphases, and/or I want to put a little more attention to a smidge of bodybuilding), but overall I think the way to go is Ye Ole OP I/A with a keen eye to auto regulation. If I feel g...

Re: OP + KB Swings questions
Haven't done this approach personally yet, but I don't think it would be a bad approach if you had access to an array of kettlebells. I would do a 10x10 at the end of each workout but just adjust the kettlebell weights according to the week. Something like... Week 1: (70%) 16kg Week 2: (80%) 20kg W...

Re: After 40 club
One thing that seems to work well for older TB-ers are shorter work periods. Meaning work hard for 3 week blocks, then take a transition/rest week. By hard I mean consistent. Smaller work/rest cycles. Your training is frequent - and as you get older the space you give yourself for recovery should b...
