Re: Training for alpine skiing
Well, I find that downhill skiing benefits from a few things: 1. Very strong quads. The knees are constantly bent and springing up and down, and after a 1,500 foot vertical drop run in Colorado, my quads are usually mush. 2. Good hip flexibility. 3. Good strength around the knees, to keep the skis p...

Re: Operator 4x/Week - Pure Strength Athlete
Agree with J-Madd about concerns with the back-to-back MS days. One of my favorite Rippetoe quotes is (something like): "You don't get stronger by lifting weights. You get stronger by recovering from lifting weights." Your proposed plan has heavy lifting in 4 days out of 5 successively. I ...

Re: Training for Swat selection + progessing in MMA
I have found that everything works a lot better if I keep a long LSS run in my plan every week. "Black Professional" is what he calls this in the books, if I remember correctly.
It seems to be a bit of a compromise between Black and Green. Works for me.

Agreed, and Week 5 is the 2nd most challenging for me. Same thing with Zulu as well.close_fox wrote:
For example, with regard to Operator, I have consistently found Week 2 (3-5x5@80%) the most challenging week by far.

Re: Bodyweight Dips and Weighted Chin Ups between Barbell sets
I don't know about your WCU's, they're probably fine. I will say that your decision to use that Zulu cluster is consistent with exactly where I have ended up after 3 o4 4 years (can never remember) of TB. Sometimes I switch out the 2nd deadlift day for a barbell row. It has worked extremely well for...

Take a slow walk to the water fountain that is furthest away from your rack, and enjoy the "scenery" along the way!

Re: Replacement(s) for back squats
Thanks, guys, but it's not a back issue. I found out more details, it's a combination of a lack of shoulder flexibility and a very lean build that results in the bar bruising the crap out of his spine and shoulders when the weights get up towards 300. So not only is he killing the bones, but he comp...

Replacement(s) for back squats
My 27 year old son has issues with shoulder/neck flexibility that he has not been able to overcome, even with the help of several coaches and physical therapists. He has a very long neck and has had neck/shoulder stiffness pretty much his whole life. I got him hooked on SS and TB and he is loving it...

Re: Base Building is amazing
KB, thanks for the response, and it's good to see you back here. A question about base building: Assuming one is following a TB protocol or doing something equivalent, and is not in crap shape, is my suggestion that the first 5 weeks of traditional base building suffices a good move? Later versions ...
