Re: PFT Tips Thread

Canterbury, do you mean maxing out race pace when you talking about 3 miles? Or Fast5 pace which is pushing yourself enough to stay out comfort zone? Not sure what you're asking? I'm speaking in the context of a timed 3 mile event. Sorry, bad question. I guess I am trying to ask if 25 min mark shou...

Re: PFT Tips Thread

Not a tactical athlete but I do know a thing or two about running. 1.5 and 3 mile distances are primarily aerobic. You need a base of long easy miles. Those that have an existing aerobic base can spend more time on speed work, those that don't -- shouldn't. The classic 80/20 split (long easy miles/...

Re: Immune system question

Thank you. Live and learn.. ;) Barkadion, how did your zinc holiday work out for you? Curious if you resolved your issues I did. I stopped taking zinc completely for 3 weeks or so. Then started reintroduce 15mg. I can feel the difference. I take 15mg now but not every day. Just when I feel like it....

Re: Immune system question

@Barkadion, to add to the above zinc also suppresses iron absorption...there's a good chance if you're feeling better without the zinc you might be in a mild state of both copper and iron. A little runner's "secret"...try throwing some beets in a blender (canned beets are fine) and drinkin...

Re: Immune system question

Good thread. People are shotgunning zinc on the advice of supplement "gurus" aka salespeople without realizing it's a potent copper antagonist. Copper's not the bad guy unless it's used in excessive amounts (like any vitamin or mineral). Copper aids in the absorption of iron and is importa...

Re: Help make Fighter work?

Two things immediately spring to mind reading your post; Have you calculated TDEE and are you eating to meet TDEE? Are you resting a minimum of 2 minutes between sets? If yes to the above.... Consider eating a few hundred calories more than your TDEE. Push out the rest period even longer, 4-5 minut...

Re: Used a Polar Heart Rate Monitor for First Time

This might be a bit off the topic, but we are in the general vicinity of how to pace base runs. I've never used a heart rate monitor, and I like the talk test a lot. For a beginner, that is probably the best way to go. Once you are more experienced you might also just pace yourself by your min/mile...
