For many years I struggled with pullups due to a shoulder dislocation injury in my youth - so maybe it doesn’t cause shoulder injuries easily but shoulder injuries don’t help. Over the years somehow it got largely fixed or I got used to the pain.
Chinups hurt my elbows IF I LET GO too quick at the top. But just slowing the eccentric slightly helps.
Neutral and Ring pullups are idiot-proof. It’s harder to screw up your shoulders and elbows.
That said I reckon you can work all sorts of pullups/chinups unless you have a injury issue to work around.

It ain't what you don’t know that gets you into trouble.
It's what you know for sure that just ain’t so.
