Programming Mock PFT's

How do you all program mock PFT's under 2 scenarios:
  • Regular training
  • As a PFT approaches
During regular training, it seems best to run after a block of training finishes.

As a PFT approaches, say 1-2 months, you might not be cleanly ending a block and therefore it doesn't fit in as well. It still seems like it should be practiced, but to what frequency? There also seems to be a higher cost to running a mock PFT since it will take the place of a valuable training session that is better suited for advancing specific fitness skills. The trade-off of getting better at taking the PFT is not without considerable merit, but it is a trade-off now.

I've searched the threads throughout the forum and the following advice as given by close_fox is repeated:
"I suggest you retest the PFT after every block you complete, including BB. More frequently as your PFT date approaches."

Definitely good advice.

You might be making this more complicated then it is and I'm not even sure what you're asking. What's a block of "training finishes"?

Doing a mock PFT in place of HIC is never a bad idea if you have one coming up. You'll get training benefit out of it and you'll get used to the game and perhaps pick up a strategy or two to improve your numbers. Once a week/or every other week in place of a HIC is fine. Doing a PFT is pretty much like doing a HIC.

I couldn't figure out wtf I was saying either lol. Now I remember - said a better way:

It seems best to run a PFT after you finish a block of training.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Fantastic advice. Practicing the exercises consecutively and in order was always helpful for me come test day.

makes sense and helps. i was wondering if it should be considered as an 'in addition to', or in place of, so that answers my question.
