Reverse Apex Hills?

I'm looking at throwing in Apex Hills to my next continuation block, but the few hills I have nearby kind of finish up at a main road with nowhere to sit a KB.
So I'm thinking about leaving a KB at the bottom of the hill, and doing "Swings - Hill Sprint - Rest" instead of "Sprint - Swings - Rest", but wondering if there'd be much of a downside to this / would the swings diminish the effect of the hill sprints too much?

I kinda' think the whole point of Apex is that you are swinging right about the time you are thinking about dying. HR is near max, you're gasping for air, and that damned hunk of cast iron is looking up at you and asking you if you really want to do this . . . .
I don't think your proposal would be a waste of time, but I don't think it would be equivalent to true Apex, either.

Why the "rest instead of sprint"? Why not swing -- sprint up -- walk/jog down --- swing? Maybe I'm just misunderstanding what you have in mind.

I read it like that at first. I think he means...
Swing-sprint-rest
Instead of
Sprint, swing, rest

Yup that's what I meant, though it does look like I wrote it the other way sorry! Fixed the original

Fair enough, I definitely can see where that's coming from. Maybe I'll keep the swings after the sprint, but jog down to keep the HR and breathing up as much as possible for the swings...that might make the best of what I've got until I find a better hill!

I think you will get good benefits from doing swings first as well. I don't foresee it being much different.

Nothing wrong at all with adapting to your environment. You are training to improve all round not win the apex hills championship.
I like the swings at the top because it is a nice safe explosive movement to do while pre fatigued.
It teaches you how to explode while fatigued from the sprint.
In your case I would just do broad jumps. It ticks the same box as an explosive hip movement as the swing.
If this is just conditioning then do them in any order until fatigued. Feel free to play with the workout and change up the order as it changes the focus, but the Hill sprints are hard no matter what you do first or second.
