A lot of time has passed and I have been forgetting to update this thread. A lot of work, family stuff, and foci other than training. I'm back though. I have decided that since I haven't trained seriously with a noob-friendly LP program now is the time for that. At the same time I'm hitting Grouchy's pre-bb template, which I plan to follow with a regular base building cycle. So I'm only applying TB2 right now.
I decided to adapt my program more towards my martial arts interest and experiment a little. It's a two-day strength program and I have a ton of exercises compared to the usual TB clusters:
Day 1:
LSS
T1:
BP
1/4 SQ
Hip thrust
Calf raise
Day 2:
LSS
T1:
OHP
DL
GHR
After doing these "tier one" exercises (3x5) I hit some accessories (4x8):
Day 1:
T2:
Triceps ext
Back ext (band)
Grip
Day 2:
T2:
Landmine press
Hammer curl
RKC plank
Grip
My day 3 is LSS only.
I have been following this for two weeks now, and I've noticed that all my problems with stiff and painful calves are gone, even when running. So calf raises will stay in my programs for a while. I'm very curious to see what effect the quarter squats will have on both my full squat and any carryover to athletic activity (running, jumping, fighting).
Most intensities are based on a 10rm, except for the heavier lifts where I used a training max instead (-10%, -10kg).

I have officially dropped out of base building again. I kept spending up to 3 hours in the gym for some reason, maybe the long RI's between my sets of partials add up, I honestly have no idea. I had to prioritize and to me, it's pretty much a no brainer that strength is my top priority.
Here's what it looks like after four weeks:
My plan is that when my quarter squat hits a 5RM of 200, I'm going to start on increasing the ROM. An interesting technique that has been used by some strongmen a long, long time ago. I'm hoping this experiment can lead to me full squatting 200 (450) within half a year, but we'll see how it goes.
So far I'm still increasing my numbers every week, and feel like I'm getting stronger in all the right places. Some days I have to skip some exercises depending on which gym is open, but I'm happy with my consistency on the basic compounds.

Well, that experiment was a failure. In the time passed I have begun training thai boxing after which total training volume became too much for me so I dropped out of strength and conditioning. Looking for a change of pace I tried the grappling classes at the muay thai gym and just sort of fell in love. I've now done 7 months of submission wrestling and BJJ, am preparing for my first competition in SW and I'm planning to do more BJJ and boxing and drop the SW after my competition. In August a gym is gonna open right next to my flat so I'm going to try TB fighter at that time with a lower body, minimalist cluster of squat and deadlift.

I went and competed in ADCC this weekend and (spoiler) lost my first fight in the -83kg class. Then in the open heavy I won my first fight and lost the second.

He outweighed me by 35 kg (77 lbs) and used to do powerlifting (DL 260 kg/ 573 lbs). My teammate tapped to his straight ankle lock before it was tight, just out of fear. It was a great experience, and I'm sure I won't make the same mistakes again.Tom28 wrote:That last guy was a monster.
After the first fight I got to know the guy that beat me, and he taught me the submission that he got me with. Then I taught him the counter I was working on when he got me. I love the friendliness of the bjj/sw community!
