Pastramis Training Logs

I might have well have never lifted or been cardiovascular fit in my life because that is where I am starting from. I am 24 and a prior Rescue Swimmer. I let everything go and here I am. My goals are to get to a 20min 5k and respectable strength numbers. This feels like a very good tool to stay honest and I'm glad to be a part of the forum!

29JUL24
BB Day 1
SE 3x20
Barbell Cluster
Push Press, Front Squat, Row, Bench Press, Shrug, RDL @65LBs

Nice ego check for day 1. I made it to the second set bench press and got dizzy, nauseous, etc... After resting I put everything up and went home. Good to know I am not where I thought I was.

Did my 30min run and was once again humbled. I've never done a heart rate focused run before and did 2.75 miles at 10:55 Avg pace with an Avg heart rate of 146 bpm. My heart rate got to 162 and I decided walking to get it down was best. within a minute I reached 135 and started jogging again. I felt like I could go harder but I knew that wasn't the purpose so I stuck to it. I am trusting the process.

Per the advice of others I shortened my cluster to four exercises (push, pull, legs, hinge) and dropped the weight to allow proper adaptation. I switched to dumbbells.
DB Bench press
DB Row
Goblet Squat
DB RDLs
I did the exercises with 20s in each hand but encountered some trouble with the squats as I shoulder carried both 20s for the first set. The workout felt a bit challenging and I knew the 50 rep sets in the following weeks would be unmanageable so I switched to just one 20 and decided to do goblet squats.

I underestimated the SE training and failed to consider the 50 reps later on. I actually just finished my SE session today and changed it a lot from the first one. I switched to a four exercise cluster with 20LB dumbbells. I was definitely in over my head. Thank you!

Learning from your mistakes is not a failure, mate. It’s a Victory. Good luck!

And it’s a fun after all :)

I goofed and switched my E run and SE on accident. I also added an extra set to my SE yesterday but I’ll just call that make up for finishing early day 1. I’m sure it doesn’t matter much but I’m trying to adhere to the programming.
Avg HR 145
30 min run
2.92 Miles covered
Pace 10:17 mi
