How's it going guys? I've lurked the board for about a month now and after reading about some of y'all success I've decided to use the Tactical Barbell System.
Little background info. I'm currently 21 and a junior in college. In a year after I graduate I'm hoping to enlist in the Army. I've been pretty involved in athletics for most of my life having played Baseball, Football, Basketball, and Track in High School. As far as current stats I'm 6'2 205lbs 37:54 5 mile time, 60 push-ups, 88 sit-ups, 13 chin-ups, 475lb squat, 300lb bench, and 525lb deadlift.
My goals for the next year are to run under a 35 minute 5 mile, get to at least 80 push-ups , 100 sit-ups, and 20 chin-ups while still maintaining some strength and Tactical Barbell seemed to be the perfect fit so for the next 8 weeks I'll run a base building phase and see how I progress with it. Defiantly looking forward to contributing to the forum.

So for Base Building I'm going to do a LSS run 4 days a week and have two strength- endurance days on Monday and Thursday. For the Strength Endurance I'm going to do a modified Stew Smith PT Pyramid in which I do 1x pull-up, 2x Military Press with 30#db, 3x Push-ups, 4x Lunges(each leg) with 30# db, and 5x Bicycle Crunch each step up the ladder.
I did the the PT pyramid today starting at 1-6-1 and other than the lunges everything else didn't feel bad. This workout is pretty volume packed as overall I did 36 pull-ups, 72 Military Press, 108 Push-ups, 288 Total Lunges, and 180 Bicycle Crunches.
Tomorrow I plan on doing a 45 minute LSS Run so we'll see how that goes.

Day 2 done. Being that I'm a poor college student at the moment I don't have a heart rate monitor so for these runs I'm going to try to go at a pace to where I can comfortably breath through my nose for the entirety of the run.
Having said that I ran six miles today at just under an 10:30/mile pace. This was borderline uncomfortably slow especially with the seemingly 1000% humidity we had outside today, but I guess that's the point of base building. I've got another LSS Run lined up for tomorrow.

Day 3 done. Ran for 5 miles at a 10:46 pace. Tommorrow is a strength-endurance day so we'll see how that goes.

Looking forward to reading your log. I'm looking at the National Guard myself. Which MOS are you interested in? Also, which Stew Smith book are you using? I've been wanting to pick a couple up. Good luck with your training.

Thanks nickgoldma. The PT Pyramid idea is from Stew Smith's 12 Weeks to BUD/S Book. I defiantly would recommend any of Stew's stuff if you're looking for a challenge, however based off of the two books I have of his (12 Weeks and The Special Operations Workout) in my opinion Stew's stuff is unsustainable in the long run because of the somewhat excessive volume and the lack of a progressive strength structure(In TB terms it's all strength-endurance and no maximum strength or base building).
As far as MOS I've narrowed it down to 11X, 68W, 13F, 19D, and 35M in that order as far as preference.

Yeah, I have heard that many people have used his programs and while effective, walked away somewhat over trained. I guess it depends who you are, though. I wonder if his programs are more effective when it becomes closer to BTC, selection, etc.

Thats a solid selection of MOS careers. Im interested in 68W, 31B, and a few others but we'll see. Still a ways to go. I do want to also pick a couple of his books though.

If you're interested Stew apparently came out with a updated version of his twelve weeks to BUD/S workout that is supposed to include weights, but it cost $50. Here is the link

Day 4 done. Did the same PT Pyramid as Monday although it seemed a lot easier this time. Tomorrow I've got a 7 mile LSS Run scheduled and I'm excited to get out and run because it will finally be below 80 degrees and low humidity for the first time in about a month.

Ran 7 Miles at a 10:31 pace. This felt pretty good today. Tomorrow I've got a 3 mile LSS run scheduled.
