Book Recommendation: The Mindful Athlete

Read this book over the weekend, by a fellow named George Mumford. Mumford was brought in by Chicago Bulls "Zen Master" coach Phil Jackson to brush up the team's mental game. For those of you that don't follow NBA, Jackson was notorious for teaching Micheal Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and the teams he coached meditation, hence his nickname the Zen Master.
The book is a really good introduction to the overall concept of meditation and how it applies to performance. It is not a good book for learning the actual practice. It does touch on a few mental exercises, but those are mostly fluff and don't compare to actual meditation technique. But overall it's a great read if you don't quite understand how meditation can benefit elite performance. Get the big picture from this book, but get the technical details of meditation practice from somewhere else.
