Arthur Conan Doyle was an interesting man.. And Sherlock isn't that simple..

After I finished some college psychology coursework, I remember re-reading them and realizing that Sherlock Holmes may very well be bipolar. Periods of manic activity and great intelligence followed by inactivity and listless responses.

"The Daily Stoic" by Ryan Holiday is also great - I read it right after my Bible in the morning and it gives me a good approach to tackle the day.

Currently reading the complete Sherlock Holmes collection (thanks, Kindle) when on the move and at night digging into an old favorite of mine, "Making Men" by Chuck Holton (a great book on Christian masculinity).
I blame mostly Sherlock Holmes (and the Hardy Boys) for getting me into LE.

Nice! I'm blaming Bosch and the Dare program for me wanting to pursue an LE career even though LEO I meet tells me not to do it.

Is everyone that disgruntled all the time? It can't be worse than the Marine Corps, is it?

I loved the Hardy Boys.

Admittedly Tym87, I just sort of fell into LE. I was at an odd point in my life where I could have either gone active duty again or take a risky but high paying job when a friend of mine (at the time he was a sergeant with Las Vegas Metro, fell out of touch with him since) pushed me to look into it. I was skeptical at first (as a kid, I was more the type to run from a police officer than want to be a police officer) but it met everything I wanted out of life and I haven't looked back since. It's definitely a bad time to be a police officer though. Even guys with decades on the job can't remember the last time the LE community as a whole was this disliked - at least here in the States. But that's a whole different discussion...

The job is good. The politics are a drag. If you come in with a 'mission before self' mindset it can be frustrating at times.

Thats what I have heard. The politics are what makes many feel aggravated in the LE field. As much as that sucks to hear, it is also something I still want to get into.
Get after it!

Grouchy, that's what I hope happens, meeting the life goals that I have which match and mirror what law enforcement could provide. Helping/Protecting others and making a difference in the community. It sucks that the public opinion is where it is at but there are a ton of supporters out there for you all (myself included) still.

Thanks KB, politics are a drag in general.

That's probably true of every job that attracts people who are committed to more than just prestige/money.
