Tactical Barbell without running?

I had a meniscus surgery some months ago. I can do almost everything again, but I still have some pain when running. That's why I avoid it at the moment. Sprints make it worse and leave me without sports for days.

I read both books and I am really ready to start the strength and conditioning program. I also red in the FAQ of book 2, that it is possible to do the whole program without running (and without rowing - this hurts even more). There are plenty workouts without it.

I just wonder if anybody has done it before without running? Does it even make sense to try it and only get fit with kettlebells, barbells and the airdyne?

i think you can do it just with the airdyne, it is probably just not as efficient. The AD is great for interval, tabata type workouts but it's a real chore when it comes to the longer distances, 180-age HR target kind of workouts but still doable. The normal power bikes are probably better for those.

I did a spell without running for 3 months when I tore my ACL about a year back, so I played around with the bikes and elliptical some.

I've done a lot of AD for both HIC ans LSS. It can be done.

Incorporating AD into Fobbit/Fun run variations is the best from my personal experience. Also, shadow boxing, light heavy bag work, step-ups and walking is great variations as well. Not sure if walking/step ups is doable for your condition, though..

Have you thought about swimming?

Yeah, I am also worried about doing 30-60min straight easy cardio on an AIRDYNE will be pretty hard to do.
Maybe walking/rucking could be done, depends on my knee from day to day.

I could also use my bike for those sessions. Living on a big hill, it will be an up and down drive and maybe not perfect for a long easy ride.

Swimming hurts my knees pretty badly. I tried it 2 weeks ago and had to stop due to my pain. Hoping this knee to get better quick...

At some point you will need to decide what you can do. Weather it’s a bike, walk, etc doesn’t really matter. As long as you match the intensity and duration of the planned E session your cardio vascular system won’t know what your doing.

I rucked for my long E sessions during BB. You could use it for all sessions if you needed to.
