Used a Polar Heart Rate Monitor for First Time

Re: Used a Polar Heart Rate Monitor for First Time
I'm looking for a HRM.
I don't like chest straps so I don't mind losing some precision with an arm band.
It's seems that HRV is getting a hype. But only chest straps can transmit accurate data for this measure. Is it worth paying attention?
I don't know if I should change my mind about chest straps and getting one.
Note: I train only for health. I'm not a professional but I love all fitness related stuffs.

What don't you like about chest straps? Have you used them before and disliked them, or are you assuming you won't like them? I would have thought I'd hate them before using one, but you get used to it very quickly and I've never had any problem with mine once I got the snugness correct.

Only 1 or 2 time and it was akward. I'm not sure I trained with it.Caleddin wrote:What don't you like about chest straps? Like you said, maybe I'll get used to it.
What do you think about HRV?

Re: Used a Polar Heart Rate Monitor for First Time
I have been using the polar Flow for just over a year seriously, and it has had a massive impact on my training.
I used it all the time at the beginning to make sure I was running / training at the correct intensity.... not looking at Average HR, that can be bogus.... I simply ran with my phone in hand and looked at the screen on occasion, I had it on the bike [indoor] to ensure I was training at the correct intensity..... and worked to remember how I felt at each level so that I would not have to rely on the phone all the time.
As noted in my Training Log, my BP is normal and my resting HR fluctuates between 52 and 55......not bad for a 'big guy' [Just North of 230# ]
Today I went for a trail run, and set the polar Beat app to steady state training 40 mins long...... I was pleasantly surprised and delighted at the pace I was able to run at and still keep the HR at 132 - 141bpm....... not race pace, but far faster than when I started all those months ago.
Don't become wedded to the piece of kit, but use it in the initial stages to ensure you know what each level of intensity feels like. It is a useful tool.

No. Mine was working fine yesterday..... can take an adjustment every now and again, ensuring the sensor is central and the strap is damp.
