Base building phase, week 4, day 4
SE cluster (KB swings (16 kg), push-ups, squats (10 lbs), pull-ups, back extensions, sit-ups)
1 sets, 25 reps (3/2 reps for pull-ups), 60s rest between exercises

Not much to say, except that I still suck at push-ups, pull-ups and back extensions. I have been having a sore throat for two weeks now. It might be time for a consultation if it doesn't get any better after the weekend.

Base building phase, week 4, day 5
80 minutes LSS on elliptical
1:22:33, avg HR 140 bpm

I thought it was too hot outside so I ran on the elliptical. It was different and I could watch a movie at the same time :)

Today is the last day of week 4, so I'm halfway done! 3x25 on the first SE day will be hard, as I had trouble with only 1x25. I might go to BJJ tomorrow if I'm feeling better. I went to the doctor this morning as I still have a pretty sore throat, but it seems like there's nothing wrong with me. They will test for Strep, but otherwise, it's just a cold that turned bad. Oh well.

Base building phase, week 5, day 2
45 minutes LSS run
47:14, 3.79 miles (12:27 min/mile), avg HR 143 bpm

I went running first thing in the morning after not much sleep as I watched the UFC the night before. When possible, I think I will train before work as this will free up my day.

On a psychological note, I'm planning on doing the challenge 5 (snake-eater's delight) during the weekend of July 20-21. That's is just before my 3 week vacation. I need a reminder as of what it's like to train when you're feeling like shit. My university days are over since a long time ago and my daughter is 2.5 years old now (so I get to sleep till 6 AM). I need this.

I can only reccomend training before work. If you wake up earlier to train, nothing can interfere with it and you can't make up escuses not to train

I used to train in the morning when I was powerlifting, but now that I train at home, it's a bit more difficult. If it's a session that I can do outside, no problem. However, my home gym is on the same floor as my daughter's bedroom. I would really have to not make a sound at all. My wife wouldn't be too happy otherwise :?

Base building phase, week 5, day 3
45 minutes LSS run

My watch ran out of battery halfway through the run, so let's say it was 45 minutes with an avg HR of 140. I ran slower and tried to keep my HR around 138-140 as opposed to 144-145. It doesn't seem like much, but I could feel the difference. I was almost breathing normally and my legs felt great. My first mile was done in 12:30 so it isn't too far from what I usually do. I'll try to do the same thing on my next run to see if I can notice the same difference.

Went to open mat on lunch break for the first time in more than a month. Usually, when I'm healthy, I go 2-3 times a week. I had 4 rolls today against 1 blue belt and 3 black belts. It's a somewhat competitive club and people are heavy! However, we have a 140 lb black belt that just destroys people. He is so technical, it's like fighting against an octopus. I'll try to go again Thursday (class, so lower intensity) and Friday (open mat). When I'll go on continuation protocol, I think I'll have to consolidate my S&C training sessions, as I don't think I can manage multiple high intensity days.

Looking forward to hearing how Snake Eater goes! I have to admit I'm too cowardly to even try any of them.

So...

I don't know what happened. The path to awesomeness was right in front of me, but I decided to steer left. I wanted to do a training program specific to BJJ, but I clearly didn't like it. I much prefer something simple, so it's time to get back on the TB wagon. Since I did BB this summer, I'll start with a continuation protocol (Operator + black pro). My 3 strength days will consist of SQ, BP, WPU with 1 DL day. As for conditioning, I'll reduce my number of BJJ training days to 2, and add a HIC/GC day and 1 LSS run per week. Every third week, I'll drop the additionnal HIC and reduce the LSS volume.

Time to get stronger!
