KB snatch question

Post by Barkadion »

I am contemplating some workarounds for low ceiling in my basement.

Would it be bad idea to finish KB the snatch with legs dip? It might not be real snatch with dipping down and kind of meeting the bell half way.. I am thinking it's better than nothing, though.. Am I wrong?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

There is nothing inherently wrong with a leg dip at the catch stage of the KB snatch, indeed if you had a copy of the original Russian Kettlebell challenge by Pavel you would see the photos of Pavel doing the snatch with the leg dip. [page 76, photo 5 and the wording next to it, if you have the book]

I have the book here, I don't have that good a memory

The only proviso would be that you have the stability of the shoulder to do this, and you maintain the nuetral spine with the leg dip.

There is the snatch pull [also known as the high pull]..... this is everything the snatch involves except of the final punch out at the top..... so you do not need to worry about the low ceiling...... this is something we have our clients do prior to the snatch.
Have a great one

Thank you! Makes sense. What is your opinion on "vertical snatch" when you can just stop with the leg dip stance?

I just tested it, and it is possible to do them half kneeling.

Half-kneeling snathes? So you go half-kneeling under bell with your arm going up?

Snatch outside weather permitting, or do swings inside.

That is a good article, thank you. I have been thinking about Fobbit Intervals option for snatch/push press substitute with the low ceiling..

I sat in a half-kneel all the way through the kb snatch. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

Yeah.. I am not an expert but I think it can really trouble a shoulder.. Plus it will probably be anti-snatch in a way..
I am thinking high pulls now..

Gorilla KB cleans are a good way to get your heart racing and not worry about ceiling height
