HIC question: Hill vs. Stairs

Is it possible to modify the hill-based HICs for running stairs instead of a hill?

My idea is to simply run stairs instead of uphill. But being that stairs are steeper than most hills, I want to make sure I don't sabotage the intended training effect of the sessions.
