Can supplemental vitamin D improve sleep?

Post by Barkadion »

Interesting article on examine.com..

I always battle with poor sleep.. I am curios if anyone has experience with supplementing Vit D and sleep quality..

https://examine.com/nutrition/can-suppl ... log-082217

"There are correlations between low blood vitamin D and poor sleep. There are also potential mechanisms through which vitamin D could influence sleep, either directly acting on the brain or immune system, or indirectly reducing sleep-disrupting health problems, although individuals with these health problems were not included in the study under review."

that's interesting, i just started supplementing with vitamin d again. i actually started for calcium uptake/bone mineralization for some potential forming stress fractures in my shins.

too soon to tell regarding sleep quality, but i'll BOLO.

I've read that vitamin D does help with sleep by regulating the body's serotonin/melatonin systems. From what I understand, if you take the D at night there's a good chance it'll cause insomnia, but if you take it earlier in the day it'll help you sleep come bedtime.

Nice thread guys, turned out vitamin d was giving me insomnia. I used to take it before bed along with magnesium. Changed it up over the last week, started taking it in the morning and my sleep's 100x better!

I had no idea it caused sleep disruption if you took it at night. Good to know
