Stairmaster 20 mins with 35 lbs in backpack. HIC, SE, or E?

Post by cws1992 »

Firefighter here. I like to do the stair master for 20 mins with 35 lbs in a backpack at least once a week since it’s a big part of my job. Just curious what would I consider this kind of condition workout to be?

I didn’t have my Apple Watch on today so I didn’t get an average heart rate but I took one manually every few minutes. I’d say it was in between 160-180 average for the whole 20 minutes. My shirt was completely soaked with sweat so I don’t think I can consider this an E plus my heart rate was higher than 150.

I would put it down as a "sport/job specific" HIC. You aren't really in that aerobic zone and the intensity was pretty high. It is a firefighter specific pepper potting drill or almost like an Apex hills type training session.
